  What is e-waste? |
Electronic waste (e-waste) is a major worldwide waste problem. In 2007, the EPA estimated that discarded electronics represented 2.25 million tons. The majority of these products, about 1.8 million tons, were disposed of in landfills with only 414,000 tons recycled. The end result isn't pretty. E-Waste is toxic and 40% of heavy metals--such as lead, mercury, cadmium--in our landfills comes from the disposal fo electronic equipment.

| What are the environmental benefits of recycling e-waste? |
Electronic products are made from valuable resources, such as precious and other metals, plastics, and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manuafacture them. Recycling these materials conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing new products. |
| What are the hazardous substances found in electronics? |
Lead, mercury, cadmium, and brominated flame retardants are among the substances of concern in electronics. These substances are included in the products for important performance characteristics, but can cause problems if the products are not properly managed at end of life. |
| Are there laws that require my company to keep sensitive data secure? |

| What is the difference between Sanitization / Wiping of hard drives versus Ecovery's method? |
Sanitization / Wiping is the process of masking information recorded on a hard drive by overwriting with random, meaningless data. Ecovery's method of guranteeing your information is destryoed starts by sending your electronic data through a hammermill followed by an inpact mill so the material is recycled. |
| Does Ecovery export electronic waste to under-developed countries? |
No. Ecovery recycles all material in our state of the art processing facility located in Loxley, AL. |
| What certifications does Ecovery have? |
Ecovery just particiapated in a three day conference to become certificed in the Recycling Industry Operating Standards (RIOS). RIOS is a management system specifically for the Recycling Industry based on ISO 14001, ISO 9001, adn OHSHA 18001. Ecovery is expecting to be certified in RIOS by the end of 2009. |
